To understand and appreciate the intricate and endangered wonders of our planet we need to look at the Amazon rainforest. It produces 20% of the earth's oxygen and 10% of the earth's fresh water which flows from its rivers into the ocean. The Amazon rainforest also contains more than 25,000 plant species, 4,300 bird species, and 20,00 species of animals.
The Tambopata-Candamo Reserved Zone was created in January 1990 and covers an area of approximately 1.480 million hectares, or roughly 30% the size of Costa Rica.

In less than one hour from Cusco you are within this extensive zone, part of which is located in the Department of Madre de Dios, the most preserved area of Amazonian rainforest in South America.
